Mayfield West, which currently encompasses Valleywood, the Village of SouthFields (formerly known as Strawberry Fields), and Anthem, is part of Caledon's tri-nodal development plan.
Valleywood was developed in the 90's and has provided residents with a more urban setting as it is very close to Brampton, offers town water and sewage as well as easy access to shopping and public transportation. Valleywood is accessed from Highway 10, just north of Mayfield Road.
Homes in Valleywood are now around 20 years old with more mature landscaping and lots of variety in style. There are townhomes and semis with a mix of bungalow and two storey detached homes. Pricing on the townhomes start around $400,000. Detached homes range up to $900,000.
As Valleywood is an established neighbourhood, it is home to the public library and a fire hall. Regional shopping and groceries are within a 2-3 minute jaunt by car.
Strawberry Fields was the name the developers used for the newest area of Mayfield West. The residents and the Town have chosen to rename the area SouthFields.
The Village of SouthFields is under development with show homes and a sales office on Kennedy Road just north of Mayfield Road. SouthFields is a live/work/play concept in that residents will have the opportunity to live, work and play right in their neighbourhood! The neighbourhood has parks and walkways, a multitude of housing options and plans for commercial/industrial along Hwy 410. In keeping with the village make-up of Caledon, the Village of SouthFields will have a town centre with shops along the main street and residential homes on the back streets.
This is a very exciting venture for the Town of Caledon as we try to meet the provincial government standards for population density while holding true to the lifestyle that makes people want to live in Caledon.
SouthFields has already started The SouthFields Residents Association (SVRA). Ken Bokor is the Chairman of the Association and Yevgenia Casale is the co-founder and editor of The SouthFields Village Voice. Ken and Yevgenia are excited to help create a strong and vibrant community. They urge their fellow residents to join the association to have a voice in the neighbourhoods development.
SouthFields Village Public School opens for September, 2012. Principal, Matt McCutcheon is excited to offer Full Day Kindergarten to Grade 8 and French Immersion under one roof. As the past principal for Herb Campbell Public School, Mr. McCutcheon feels strongly that there is value in keeping young teenagers in the same school as the teachers they bonded with as youngsters. They will go to Mayfield Secondary School for Grades 9-12.
Children in the Catholic School system go to St. Rita's from JK to Grade 8 and to Robert F Hall for High School. There are also future plans for a Catholic school also to be built in SouthFields.
